Industrial Coatings: Antimicrobial Solutions

Antimicrobial Coatings: A Long-Term Solution

Silver Bullet AM™ with Agion® Technology is a high gloss, high durability water-based epoxy that contains an EPA registered Silver/Copper Ion antimicrobial compound. Once applied, it has the ability to protect the coated surface from a broad spectrum of bacteria, mold, mildew, algae and fungi. Silver Bullet AM works by disrupting the reproduction and inhibiting metabolism of microbial cells. Silver Bullet AM is for interior applications only. VOC compliant (171g/l or 1.45 # per gallon).

Despite your facility’s best intentions and your regular cleaning procedures, surfaces in your building can retain bacteria, mold and mildew, fungi, and algae. This can happen on commercial door handles and handrails, in restrooms and food service areas, and more. When an employee, vendor, visitor, patient, or customer comes in contact with these pathogens, this can trigger allergies and asthma, and spread disease—and, to make matters worse, your HVAC system can pick up these pathogens, spreading them throughout your entire facility.

Antimicrobial coatings by Silver Bullet AM™ is a powerful solution. Here are some details:

  • Silver Bullet AM™ was also proven to be 99.9 percent effective, according to a study by the University of Arizona, against a variety of harmful bacteria.
  • You can benefit from long-lasting surface protection against dangerous microbes after just one application, including E. Coli, legionella, listeria, salmonella, and types of pneumonia.

Antimicrobial Surface Coating Application Methods

Silver Bullet AM is available in two forms:

This antimicrobial protective coating is ideal to protect areas of your facility where severe chemical washing occurs, as well as on the ductwork of your HVAC system. This composition of the solution makes Silver Bullet AM a significant improvement over standard organic antimicrobials. That’s because these traditional products dissipate quickly, while Silver Bullet AM is long lasting because of its stable ion exchange process.

Plus, it’s easy to apply, whether that’s on metal, wood, or concrete. It dries quickly, being tack-free within 20 minutes to an hour; fully dried within a few hours; and completely cured within a week.

How Pathogens Spread

These can spread in numerous ways, through touch, skin contact, airborne particles (such as when someone coughs or sneezes), bodily fluids (such as when someone bleeds) and more. Plus, they can also be spread through a facility’s HVAC system.

Through your building’s HVAC system, pathogens can be picked up from the walls, floors, ceilings, and other surfaces as it circulates air to warm or cool the structure. Then, the system recirculates the pathogens, spreading them throughout the building. Plus, in the HVAC system itself, damp spots can become ideal breeding grounds for bacterial growth, which is then spread throughout the facility.

Antimicrobial Surface Coating FAQs

What type of testing has been done on Silver Bullet AM™?

Testing has been both rigorous and independent. In these tests, equipment has been coated with Silver Bullet and then studied under intense conditions, both in terms of temperature and of the chemicals involved in cleaning coated areas. Results prove that this antimicrobial surface coating continues to significantly reduce contamination, even under extreme temperatures and chemical use.

What is the active ingredient(s) in this formulation?

Silver!

What are the benefits of using silver to reduce microbiological contamination?

First, it’s a safe and natural solution, which allows for environmental compatibility while having proven effectiveness against microbiological contamination and propagation, with bacterial resistance, as well. The formulation is also highly durable with thermal stability while also being corrosion resistant—and it also has an effective life expectancy.

Why does silver work well in antimicrobial protective coatings?

This metal has the ability to inhibit the growth and reproduction of mold and other unwanted organic materials. Plus, it disrupts the cell wall functions and the metabolism of numerous kinds of bacteria, mold, and yeast that can cause problems in facilities. Plus, the stability of its ion exchange during the process makes silver a much more effective choice as an antimicrobial protective coating than traditional solutions that rapidly dissipate.

How are Silver Bullet formulations applied?

If ordering the product in a bucket, you can apply it with a roller or brush. If that’s your choice, then you can use it as mixed, diluting with water, as needed. If using an air atomized sprayer, dilute with water, up to 5-10%, as needed. Dilution is typically not needed with airless sprayers. Or, you can order Silver Bullet AM in an aerosol spray, which can be ideal for touch-ups among other usages.

What types of surfaces can be coated?

Surfaces include metals, as well as wood and concrete.

How fast-acting is Silver Bullet—and how long lasting?

Both application methods of Burke industrial coatings have been shown to be effective within mere hours. Then, because of its controlled release of silver and copper ions via the use of a zeolite carrier, it can then maintain optimal performance for years, while continuing to suppress future contamination.
